Chris Minh Doky with Twyla Tharp & The Danish Royal Ballet
..and the voice of Frank Sinatra
Chris Minh Doky leads a 14 piece orchestra on stage with the dancers of The Royal Ballet.
Embrace the nightclub mood and fly away to the seductive voice of Frank Sinatra. Come Fly Away pays tribute to one of the greatest singers of our time, featuring sharp-footed choreography, show dance and world-class jazz music.
Twyla Tharp, who is celebrated as one of America’s most acclaimed and versatile choreographers within ballet and modern dance, has previously staged works set to Sinatra’s music, and with Come Fly Away she has now created an entire ballet based on some of the very best of Sinatra’s songs.
Come Fly Away combines Sinatra’s smooth vocal with Tharp’s elegant and seductive dance style, giving the Royal Danish Ballet dancers the opportunity to explore new and more show-like sides of their talent. Come Fly Away takes place in a nightclub where different couples experience the joys and sorrows of falling in love; feel the magic of the first kiss and experience the pangs and pain of breaking up. Sharing the stage with the dancers is an orchestra that charms the audiences with the original mood of the legendary Sinatra records. The orchestra is composed for the occasion by the world-famous Danish jazz bassist Chris Minh Doky, who will also be on stage leading the 14 piece orchestra.
