Acoustic Bass
My acoustic bass was built by E. Wilfer in Germany in 1980s. It's the only acoustic upright bass I have and it's been with me since my 21st birthday (1990)
Electric Bass
My main electric is a "jazz bass" kinda 4 string by Yamaha (BB1500A). I really love this bass and it's the one that goes on the road with me. In the studio I often use a 5 string which is also "jazz bass" kinda thing. This one is also a Yamaha (BB-LTD5A)
Upright Electric
This is the bass I most often play now a days. It's so easy to travel with an I love how it feels and sound. 80 % of the time live on stage, it actually sounds more acoustic than 'the real thing'. Compare that to an acoustic on stage, which only sounds acoustic 25 % of the time when stage levels permits a microphone. I love this instrument.
Acoustic bass pick up
I have two pick ups I love. One is the Wilson Pick Up System by Jørgen Wilson, which I've been playing with for many years. It has a real strong signal and has a clarity I haven't heard in any other pick up. It sounds real good at all levels but it also makes it possible to play real loud without feeding back. It's perfect for playing solos and melodies. The other pick up I love is the Realist by Dave Gage. When I started playing with Michael Brecker, I was searching for a more earthy and less direct sound. This pick up definitely gives you that and it's perfect for coping and solos. Both pick ups are in my opinion the best ones out there. They are very different, but I love the sound of both.
Microphones
In the studio as well as live I use DPA microphones. Simply the best there is! In the studio I use DPA 4021 on my acoustic. On vocals I use DPA 4015-TI, on piano I use matched/paired DPA 4021s.
Strings
For my electric I only use DR handmade Strings MR5-45 and for my acoustic I use regular Spirocore.
Speakers
The speakers I use for mixing albums and for listening to music at home are made by Artcoustic. These speakers sound great and are very honest. As a bonus they look really good too!
Amp and speaker cabinet
My amp is a Walter Woods 1000W mono amp. I love this amp. It's small, strong, sounds great - and works all over the world without a transformer. I use it for both loud electric stuff and my acoustic stuff. I prefer to hook it up to a Yamaha BBt410S 4x10 cabinet.
Pedal board
My pedal board is fairly simple. The centerpiece is my switch with build in DI box, pre-amp, EQ mute and boost. My delay is the Replica by T-Rex, my octave pedal is the Boss OC3, my fuzz is the Bass Juice from T-Rex, the square pedal is my midi controller for my laptop.
